John B. Conners

John Conners recently retired from Liberty Mutual after 34 years. John started at Liberty as an Actuarial Analyst in 1969, becoming Vice President and Actuary of the company in 1980 and eventually became Executive Vice President of the Personal Market.

Liberty Mutual’s Personal Market operates throughout the United States and Canada, with over 10,000 employees and is the eighth largest automobile insurer in the United States.

In addition to his administrative duties at Liberty Mutual, John is keenly interested in auto safety issues and the tort system of the United States and Canada.

Mr. Conners has served as a director of many safety-related organizations, including Chairman of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the Highway Loss Data Institute and as a  board member of the Advocates and Highway and Auto Safety, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), and the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay.

Mr. Conners is recognized as an expert in the tort system of the United States, serving as Chairman of the Insurance Research Council, the ISO Actuarial Committee, and Insurers for Auto Insurance Reform in Massachusetts and has authorized a number of papers on the automobile insurance system.

In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of the Casualty Actuarial Society and was President of the Casualty Actuaries of New England.

John graduated from Boston College with a degree in Mathematics in 1967 and attended the university of Massachusetts at Amherst for graduate work in Mathematics. In 1974, he became a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

John has been married to Jean for 35 years and has three married children, James, Michael, and Colleen.
